During Ali's suspention, Frazier had established a fearsome track record, knocking out 23 of his 26 opponents, 14 of the KO's coming by round 3.
The fight itself exceeded even its promotional hype and went the full 15 rounds. The fight was about even until the later part of the 11 round when Frazier caught Ali with a crushing left hook that almost floored the challenger. Early in the 15 and final round Frazier landed another spectacular left that put Ali on his back. Ali got up from the devestating blow and managed to stay up for the remainder of the round.
All Judges scored it a unanimous decision for Frazier to retain his belt.
